Deceit modify the CHMOD on new file from 766 to 666

#1 Post past jonjon10 » 2009-01-25 22:35

How-do-you-do - I'm trying to install Google XML Sitemaps, hither is the instructions below

Upload the full directory into your wp-content/plugins directory
Apply your favorite FTP program to create 2 files in your WordPress directory (that's where the wp-config.php is) named sitemap.xml and sitemap.xml.gz and make them writable via CHMOD 666. More information nigh CHMOD and how to make files writable is bachelor at the WordPress Codex and on stadtaus.com. Making your whole web log directory writable is Not recommended anymore due to security reasons.
Activate the plugin at the plugin administration page
Open up the plugin configuration page, which is located under Options -> XML-Sitemap and build the sitemap the first fourth dimension. If y'all get a permission error, check the file permissions of the newly created files.
The plugin will automatically update your sitemap of you publish a mail service, then theres aught more to do :)

I have created the files sitemap.xml and sitemap.xml.gz and it's defaulted the CHMOD to 766. I have tried to alter it to 666, past right clicking the file and typing 666 in the box and pressing ok. My problem is that when i become back to the file and cheque the CHMOD information technology defaults back to 766, therefore the plugin does not work. How do i go information technology to stay at 666?

Please help it driving me basics!

Check the logs if the server y'all're using even supports CHMOD. Some are non, especially servers running on Windows.

Reproduce the problem. The communicationwith the server is recorded by Filezilla at the height (log pane). Check for the CHMOD command sent by Filezilla, especially the reply. If you run into something like this:

22:22:46 Command: SITE CHMOD 666 NASA_cert.pdf
22:22:46 Response: 500 Invalid SITE command.

then CHMOD is not supported by the server.

The guide told you to create files, but y'all created directories. Directories ever have the Execute bit set, I've not seen 1 without all the same.
